Oberon running on STM32 Microcontrollers

Postby cfbsoftware » Mon Jul 02, 2012 1:12 pm

This evening we have developed and run our first Oberon program (Blinker, of course!) on non-NXP hardware using Astrobe.

The target device used is the STM32F100RBT6B Cortex-M3 microcontroller from STMicroelectronics.

The development board is the STM32VLDISCOVERY board which sells for about $US 9.90.

The one I was suggesting is slightly different, and includes a 14 seg LCD display.

Your link is STM32F100RB microcontroller, 128 KB Flash, 8 KB RAM in 64-pin LQFP

STM32L152RBT6 microcontroller featuring 128 KB Flash, 16 KB RAM, 4 KB EEPROM, in an LQFP64 package.

The STM32L-DISCOVERY is just a tad more expensive, at $12.00, but the LCD appeals for a possible teaching application.

I presume once you have a STM32Fxx working, the changes to another family member, like the STM32L will be minimal ?

Yes - we have the STM32L-DISCOVERY board as well. I chose the simpler one to try first :)

Since then I have got the demo program running on the STM32L152RBT6 MCU on the STM32L-DISCOVERY as well. It only took about 30 minutes (mainly wading through the unfamiliar documentation) but it worked first time. We are also planning to support a couple of the Olimex STM32 boards but we're still waiting for those to arrive,
