Programming an EA LPC1343 via the UART

Post by cfbsoftware » Thu Jul 26, 2012 12:29 pm

Similar to the previous post Programming an LPCxpresso LPC1769 via the UART I have made a simple adapter board from Veroboard (Stripboard) that allows UART0 of an Embedded Artists LPC1343 Quickstart board to be connected to a FT232RL USB to Serial breakout board from SparkFun. The breakout board is connected to a USB port on the PC running Astrobe which supplies the power to both boards. The MCU can then be reset, programmed, and can send and receive text from the Astrobe terminal window all under the control of the Astrobe menu without having to push an awkward combination of buttons or switch jumpers.

The solder jumper on the breakout board was changed from the 3.3v setting to provide a 5v power supply to the MCU. An additional pair of female headers provides easy access via jumper wires to the 30 pins of the Quickstart board as can be seen in this photo:

The dashed black lines indicate where the copper tracks under the board have been cut.
